Creating a sacred space for personal reflection is essential to reconnect with yourself and nurture your soul. By creating a sacred space or “meditation nook”, you will always have a corner of serenity carved out to retreat to in the midst of a busy day. It’s as simple as taking ten minutes to step away for some solitude and reflection, which will do wonders for your mind and body. You will be much more willing to take some uninterrupted time for yourself knowing you have a soothing meditation space available right in your own home!
We’ve collected some tips to inspire you to create your own meditation nook:
The space – Selecting a space to carve out your nook is the first step in creating a meditation area. Your space should remain sacred for the purpose of meditation or reflection. Pick a room you feel safe and content in with as much natural lighting as possible! A room filled with natural light will be sure to enhance your mood as soon as you enter. Better yet, a room with a great view of the sky, mountains or nature! Areas such as a closet, pretty screen, or a spot in the garden are the perfect locations for your sacred nook.
Comfort – We experience everything through our senses, which can be heightened when we meditate. Awaken your senses by gathering candles, soothing sounds, or fragrances to place in your little alcove. Of course, you also need a soft pillow, chair, or cushion to sit on for ultimate relaxation! Or, if you are using this space for meditation yoga, ensure there is enough space to roll out your yoga mat.
Tokens of Gratitude – Included items in your space that enhance your meditative experience. Curate a few items to inspire, relax and encourage positive meditation. Items such as visual art, symbolic images, rocks, sage, a journal, or guided meditations are a great addition to your room.
Nature – a space near a window with natural light and a plant in your surroundings will allow you to be more in tune with your senses and add that final touch to your sacred space.
