A bridal swap is the number one event for past and future brides to be ‘green’ and recycle, and is especially useful for two groups of women: the past bride who is in desperate need of more closet space and the eco-conscious bride on a budget. But what exactly is a bridal swap? Well, we’ll tell you about!
A bridal swap is a green event that gathers all participants for a field day of shopping, wedding-related activities, and fun times with the girls! Basically, it is an event held in a hall filled with tables that are rented out. There, you can sell your gently used wedding items (that you store in the back of the closet and never see again anyway!) for cash, buy gently used wedding items at affordable prices, and check out some wedding vendors who promote their wares to brides on tight schedules. The items sold and bought include centerpiece vases, ring pillows, candle holders, garters, jewelry, and so much more. Even bridesmaid dresses, as well as wedding dresses and veils, are offered up in this “everything goes” swap!
In Vancouver, DreamGroup puts on a bridal swap every year, and then helps out the participants by posting their items for sale all year round at SmartBride Boutique’s website, www.smartbrideboutique.com
Bridal swaps are eco-friendly wedding saviours because all kinds of wedding items are exchanged and recycled rather than made new. This avoids the environmentally damaging effects of planning a non-green wedding. It’s simple, really: all the processes that go into making new items for show on your wedding day (and it’s only a day!) are bypassed altogether, making your choice to be green a huge, positive effect on the environment. So, if you’re feeling guilty about overindulging on your big day, decide to go green for your wedding and attend your next local bridal swap, or even better, hold one yourself!
Past brides, here’s how you can attend the swap: start by collecting all your wedding treasures (and I mean all of them!) and checking their conditions to see if they’re ‘gently used’ or worn out. After all, you don’t want a future bride to wear your tattered gown on her big day, and she likely won’t buy it from you either! Then, contact DreamGroup or another bridal swap organizer to let them know that you’d like to participate and sign up for a table. Also, don’t forget to list your items on SmartBride Boutique’s site for maximum exposure! (Leave us a comment if you know of another site past brides can list their used wedding items for sale!)
Future brides, all you need to do is show up, shop till you drop, and feel good about doing your part to preserve the planet!
So, if you’re a bride-to-be from Vancouver reading this now and realizing you’ve missed the event by a few months (regrettably), don’t fret! Remember, SmartBride Boutique is holding items from the event until they’re sold. Check out their website for wonderful finds, and be proud to have contributed to preserving our planet for future brides.
