This October Shoo-Foo was caught at the Victoria Women’s Show for a short-lived, but informative experience. Having teamed up with Jennings Florists to provide a bamboo towel table for Island women shoppers, Shoo-Foo was reminded yet again how little known bamboo towels are. No wonder they amaze fingers that glide against the softness and silky hang of Shoo-Foo products! We got asked questions there, and we thought, hey, why not answer them on our blog, since Victoria women are likely not the only ones wondering the same things!
What are bamboo towels? Believe it or not, people didn’t know! Bamboo towels are towels made from viscose from bamboo. In short, the totally sustainable plant from China has recently been discovered as a source for making fibers that can be turned into fabric. At Shoo-Foo we saw that the super-absorbency and freshness-lasting properties of the fibers made it the perfect fit for making towels and bedding.
Where is the product made? Shoo-Foo’s products are made in China for two very important reasons: 1) We believe in eco-sustainability and manufacturing bamboo textiles close to their source cuts down a lot on transportation pollution. 2) China is where the proprietary technology was developed to make bamboo rayon fabric, and we believe that since they invented it, they’re the best at doing it! Research is also evolving to make bamboo textiles even better as the years go by. The myth that all things ‘made in China’ are poor quality is an aged, and stereotyped belief. At Shoo-Foo, we also take special care to ensure that the working environment of our manufacturers is ethical and safe.
What’s the difference between bamboo and microfiber? Bamboo is a product manufactured from a natural plant source. It is breathable, which can help control temperatures for things like bedding, and is very absorbent no matter how you weave it. Microfiber is made of polyester, which is essentially a wearable plastic. Plastic is made from petrochemical production, which is very polluting to planet earth.
What is a head wrap? They are really neat towels made to fit your head perfectly after you’ve washed your hair! You start by flipping your hair upside down, place the triangular-shaped, hood-like towel on your head, and slowly twist your hair inside the towel, coming up to tie it to the attached latch at the front. Ok, you just have to see it to understand it! Shoo-Foo’s bamboo head wraps are ultra soft and super absorbent for really wet hair. The headwrap goes well with the yoga/gym towel as a GREAT travelling pair, when space is tight and you still need to get dry after your on-the-road showers!
What are mini Shoo-Foo? These are basically miniature versions of our towels! They are like reusable, yet disposable and biodegradable cloths that you can carry in tiny puck form in your purses, baby bags, picnic baskets or cars. They open up when you get them wet, but you don’t always need water to unravel them with just your hands. Great as makeup wipes too!
Can I buy just one of your wash cloths, or do I have to buy the whole bundle? The washcloth bundle is sold as just that – a bundle! As you’ll find in most other towel collections, washcloths are usually sold as a set. However, the great thing is that the Shoo-Foo face towel is a great alternative if you’re looking for something smaller that you can buy just one of.
